DevLog #2

Hey there! Callum here with an update for our game "In Development". I'm excited to show off some of the things I have been working on. I am on the artists on the team and I have been focusing on 3D modeling, animating, and texture art for the game. So what do I have to show everyone? Quite a bit. First lets start with the development of the main character.

The main character for our game is a little adventurer. We wanted to create a character that would have bright colors and a look that would appeal to players of all ages.

She is a kid that is wearing a rain hat, suspenders, blue jeans, and some brown boots. As well as some little gloves. We wanted to make sure this character not only had an appealing look but also would be a character that people could latch onto and remember. She is definitely one of my favorite 3D models that I have made. Along with this I have been working on animations for the character.

Animations are a big part of the development of a main character. How they move around the world around them can impact how people see this character. With this I had to work on creating animations for the walking, idle, sprinting, jumping, climbing, and pushing cycles. We wanted this character to look lively and full of energy so we made sure that this character could do a lot and look like they know exactly what they are doing.

NPC characters are a big part of our game. They are the ones who give quests to the character which sends them to go to an area to go solve puzzles and get items for them. For this game we decided to make them all animal characters because we felt it would work with the themed areas and style of our game. For these 3 animals we chose a bear named Mr.Fuzzy, a snow leopard name Leo, and a Bat named robert. I focused on models and texturing these characters.

Another part of our game that was very important was our dialogue and quest system. I spent a good deal of time writing dialogue for all 3 NPC's and the objectives for each quest that would focus on getting the characters personalities which are also reflected in their models. There is also dialogue from the developer who is playing the game which is also supposed to be you as they reflect on the game they abandoned long ago. In this game we will see text that talks about things they need to fix for the game and talking about memories of working on this game with their friends.

We have a hub area in the game in which each NPC hangs out and gives out the quests. Each of them has a little house of some sort and I spent time modeling them. With Mr.Fuzzy we have a log cabin which reflects on the woods area that he sends you to. Robert has a tent because he comes from a cave and likes to be in the dark and sends you to a cave. Then we have Leo who lives in a igloo and sends you to a  snowy mountain.

That's it for this weeks DevLog! We are very excited to show you all what else we have in the works so stay tuned!
